Comparison: butter LONDON The Black Knight and Hard Candy Bite of Black

Hey everybody!  Welcome to the weekend! :)  Today I have for you a comparison post about which I am particularly excited.  About a month ago I was in Wal-Mart perusing the nail polish, namely the Hard Candy nail polish.  I spotted several new things from a new fall line, including a new Itzy Glitzy offering that looked remarkably like butter LONDON's The Black Knight.

My heart leaped.  Could this actually be a replacement for the guy who has treated me so infernally in the past?  It was as if he was waiting for me...Hard Candy Bite of Black.

I know what you're thinking.  His name isn't very elegant.  He's a $4 cheapo.  But don't judge!!  Okay, I'll admit that a suit of armor is more my style than vampires and Harleys, but just see for yourself!  I used 2 coats of each on alternating nails.

L to R: Bite of Black, The Black Knight, Bite of Black, The Black Knight

The Black Knight looks to have a *slightly* more pigmented black jelly base.  The glitter is a tiny bit finer as well.

L to R: Bite of Black, The Black Knight, Bite of Black, The Black Knight

Okay, let's talk application.  That's the area that's important to this girl.  Bite of Black wins.  The polish didn't have that gooey-stringy quality that The Black Knight does.  Bite of Black also dries less gritty.  SIGH OF RELIEF!  He wasn't just ALL LOOKS!! :D

L to R: Bite of Black, The Black Knight, Bite of Black

One last difference that I noticed is visible in the blurred shot:  the difference in the pink and gold glitters of each polish.

L to R: Bite of Black, The Black Knight, Bite of Black

At the end of the day,  I feel secure enough with Bite of Black to finally be able to end my dysfunctional relationship with The Black Knight.  I think.  But, gosh, he's so handsome!  Wait...no...I CAN move on.  I CAN.

What do you think of these two guys?  I personally believe the differences are practically imperceptible.  And I'm not using the word "dupe" because it annoys me. :)

Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day!

    1. He and I have a love/hate relationship. I'm glad Bite of Black is here to pick up the pieces. :D

    2. "I'm glad Bite of Black is here to pick up the pieces." LOLOL Typically that phrase is not funny, but the way you say it, it IS!!! hehe
And I love how you used two very long, educated words because you abhor the word "dupe." :D Ooh sorry I just used it! I'm so glad you were able to find something that works for you in The Black Knight's stead!! It is awfully pretty. :) So, if you saw some new fall Hard Candy polishes, did you see the white hex glitters with the tiny colored bar glitters?! I can't remember the names of any of the 4 I saw, and Google is NOT helping me out. Could it be that MY Wal-Mart has polishes that no one else's has?!?! :O

    3. :D I will not use the words "dupe" or "lemming"...and probably a few other ones as well. :) Hmmmm...I don't remember specifically seeing one with that description, but I did see several new ones...are you thinking of Sweet Tart? One I really liked was called Emerald's Eve.

    4. I do use both of those...dupe doesn't bother me, but I think "lemming" is rather stupid. A lemming is a cute little ermine-like creature, not a sought-after nail polish! :P
YES, you're right - still no swatches of 'em, but Sweet Tart is one of the 4 I was thinking of!! Finally found this image on Google - they're #730-733. I'm debating between the red & the blue... :-/

    5. Sorry to jump in here but I never say "lemming" either. Or "nubs".. I don't know what "nubs" reminds me of...but I just don't like it. I know there are others, I just can't think of them right now.

  2. I love Hard Candy! I had no idea they put this shade out, looks like I'll be taking a trip to Walmart this weekend. :)

  3. Seems like a great dupe! Butter London is so expensive here and the quality isn't as great as I would like x

    1. Sometimes I think I'm the only one out there who has performance issues with BL...but then I read fellow disappointed girls like you and it makes me think I'm not crazy. <3 I'm quite happy to have found Mr. Bite of Black. :D

  4. LOL! Your posts always make me laugh! Bite of Black is a great duplicate, but I think I'm falling in love with The Black Night.. So sparkly and gorgeous. I'll have to try Bite of Black first, just to see if I really love it in real life. Only bad thing is I have to go to Walmart to get them! ;D

    1. Falling for the knight in tarnished armor?? Run, young lass, run!! He's a ne'er do well! Besides, Bite o' Black is casting a fond glance in your direction...surely ye will not break his heart in favor of a dandy??

  5. Lolol. Lemming's never bothered me, in fact I think it's kind of cute, but I'm with you on dupe and that's part of why I never do that kind of post, lol. I'm glad you found a suitable replacement for That Blasted Knight. Less expensive and better formula, that surely can't be beat :) Lovely that it dries less gritty, that's another reason I'm not totally in love with glitters... This does make me want to pull out my polish similar to TBK :) That rainbow sparkle...love!

    1. "Lemming" bothers me because somebody took it from the way lemmings run off the cliff after something. Well, if a gal runs off the cliff in pursuit of a nail polish, she deserves the splat she gets. I just find it offensive, LOL...sorry, I guess I'm just old and grumpy. :D I wasn't expecting Bite of Black to be as impressive as it is. But my experience with Hard Candy polishes has been only good so far. :)

  6. Ah yes, they are practically the same! And the fact that Bite of Black has the superior formula and is so much cheaper makes it the clear winner in my book. Congrats on successfully breaking up with Black Knight lol. :)

    1. Clear winner is right. I hate to rag on BL, but there is just something amiss with The Black Knight's formula. I only have 4 BL polishes (because of the price tag), and the others work great for me.

Ahhh, thanks...I think large quantities of chocolate will help ease the pain of the split. :P

  7. They look pretty much the same to me. I have the BL and haven't had any trouble with it, but this is a good alternative.

    1. I was going to take off my swatch fingers but started doing housework and ran out of time to change the whole mani, so I went ahead and finished it with Bite of Black, and to the naked eye, there is no difference. YAY! :D

Oh, and after a day, the Hard Candy has no tip wear and BL does.

  8. Hi Melissa, what a great post and pefect pictures!!! I see that there was a lot of talk about vocabulary - in general I wonder if at this masses of bottles of nailpolish on this planet wöit is still justified to use the "D" word - how to avoid twins and siblings? No idea but always a blast if you come across one of them for that money - "wöit" = is it - sorry for that typo :-(

    1. Yeah...that's like there are only so many musical notes, and yet a bazillion songs...how can people not write 2 just alike unintentionally?? Something to think about. Nail polish makes a girl SOO introspective. :D

  9. Great find and comparison! I will usually go for the cheaper alternative if it's this close. LOL, you have reminded me of probably the funniest blog post I have ever read :)

    1. :D Why thank you, LOL. I was pretty excited to see this inexpensive alternative to the man I loved. I need to do another BL post soon so everybody doesn't think I hate 'em!!
