Hey everybody! How is your week going so far?
I may not have spent the past few months blogging about my polish purchases, but I did in fact *make* polish purchases. :) On one of my more recent polish shopping jaunts with Mr. Sweets, I picked up two of the new 2015 releases by Hard Candy: Wild Child and A Mermaid's Tale. I was drawn to the former due to its combination of duochrome and glitter. I purchased the latter because I always buy polish with mermaid names...I think there must be 72 out there named Mermaid's Tale.
So this particular A Mermaid's Tale is a medium electric blue shimmer that has a slight green undertone.
The formula is good, with an easy and non-messy application. It's a little sheer so you may want to use 3 coats. And what is up with my fingers in these pics? They look absolutely cadaverous. Oh well..early Halloween! :/
Wild Child is the more complex of the two. It's a medium purple shimmer with a slight green duochrome that doesn't really translate on the nail. But in my opinion, Wild Child's best feature is its blue microglitter. Yay sparkle!
Mmmmm...shimmer. And tiny blue glitter. Niiiice. Wild Child is also a sheer little number...I'm wearing three coats in the pics, which covered up Mr. VaNeLi quite nicely.
So has Hard Candy been releasing anything lately that has gotten your attention? I'm always on the lookout for interesting drugstore/big box store polishes. Hard Candy polishes are sold at Wal-Mart (which I avoid like the plague...but you know) for $4 each.
Thanks for reading, and have a lovely day! :)

Comparison: butter LONDON The Black Knight and Hard Candy Bite of Black
Hey everybody! Welcome to the weekend! :) Today I have for you a comparison post about which I am particularly excited. About a month ago I was in Wal-Mart perusing the nail polish, namely the Hard Candy nail polish. I spotted several new things from a new fall line, including a new Itzy Glitzy offering that looked remarkably like butter LONDON's The Black Knight.
My heart leaped. Could this actually be a replacement for the guy who has treated me so infernally in the past? It was as if he was waiting for me...Hard Candy Bite of Black.
I know what you're thinking. His name isn't very elegant. He's a $4 cheapo. But don't judge!! Okay, I'll admit that a suit of armor is more my style than vampires and Harleys, but just see for yourself! I used 2 coats of each on alternating nails.
The Black Knight looks to have a *slightly* more pigmented black jelly base. The glitter is a tiny bit finer as well.
Okay, let's talk application. That's the area that's important to this girl. Bite of Black wins. The polish didn't have that gooey-stringy quality that The Black Knight does. Bite of Black also dries less gritty. SIGH OF RELIEF! He wasn't just ALL LOOKS!! :D
One last difference that I noticed is visible in the blurred shot: the difference in the pink and gold glitters of each polish.
At the end of the day, I feel secure enough with Bite of Black to finally be able to end my dysfunctional relationship with The Black Knight. I think. But, gosh, he's so handsome! Wait...no...I CAN move on. I CAN.
What do you think of these two guys? I personally believe the differences are practically imperceptible. And I'm not using the word "dupe" because it annoys me. :)
Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day!

Hard Candy Cocoa Smore
Hey everybody! Okay...picture it: It's 1976. A little girl is awake early on a Saturday morning, watching The Bugs Bunny Show with her big brother and eating Count Chocula. She's rooting for Wile E. Coyote to finally catch that smart alack Road Runner when she notices that her questionably nutritious breakfast has reached the pinnacle of its deliciousness...when the cereal is gone and that unbelievably tasty, brownish-grayish milk is there for the slurping.
Fast forward to 2013...This same girl is all grown up. She has put off that Wal-Mart trip for as long as possible, but she just used the very last drop of hairspray this morning, so she has to go. She saunters down the cosmetics aisles...you know, just looking...when she sees it! It's the new Hard Candy polishes she has been waiting for!! Her eyes are immediately drawn to Cocoa Smore, from the Candy Sprinkles collection, when it hits her: This polish looks just like Count Chocula milk!!!
I'm not kidding...it's that same delicious cocoa color. Well, the artificial kind. I think it's gorgeous, and not just because it makes me hungry.
I used two coats in the photos, and there was plenty of black and white glitter to go around. That combined with the faux chocolate base makes it an interesting neutral in my opinion. I wore it to the office today, and it didn't look crazy at all. It held up well on me...I didn't even have the usual immediate tip wear! And the fact that the name is "smore" rather than "s'more" is only slightly irritating. :)
So, it you're in the market for a different twist on the neutral polish, I highly recommend Hard Candy Cocoa Smore. It's interesting and fun without being "out there." :) I wonder if Hard Candy makes one that looks like Franken Berry?? He had little strawberries for fingernails, remember?!
Warning: *GRATUITOUS COCOA SHOT*
Take care, ya'll! :)

I'm not sure whether or not it's fortified with 8 vitamins and minerals...but look how pretty! |
