The Chartreuse-Haired Stepchild: China Glaze Trendsetter

Trend·set·ter (n):
Someone who starts a new fashion, style, etc., or helps to make it popular.

Today's post is all about that famous, or infamous, polish that tried its hardest to start something earth-shatteringly fashion-forward but instead ended up being scorned as the ugliest polish most people had ever seen.  Yes...China Glaze Trendsetter!

China Glaze Trendsetter

Funny story about this polish.  My sister and I were in Ulta when she spotted this.  I said, "This polish is famous for being so unattractive."  Well, that's all it took for my rebellious sis.  She bought it.  I saw her the next day wearing Trendsetter, and she confessed, "When I swiped it across my thumb, I literally gagged."

It's different.  The color is probably best described as dijon mustard with a hint of green...but it really does have a lovely, glowing shimmer.  It has a peculiar charm.

Now that's something you don't see every day.

Some people near and dear to our hearts have famously said that they would never own Trendsetter. :)  But come on now...let's not be too quick to judge.  Why don't we do a pros and cons list of Trendsetter?  Yes, let's!!

Pros:

1.  It's unique.  You won't see yourself coming and going whilst wearing Trendsetter.
2.  It has honestly got one of the best formulas I've ever experienced with a polish.  Very, very smooth.
3.  It's easy to coordinate...it's the same exact color as the 4-day old bruise on my leg.

Are you scared?

Cons:

1.  You may risk being shunned by all your non-trendy friends.
2.  It WILL remind you of rotting Granny Smith apples.
3.  It's the same exact color as the 4-day old bruise on my leg.

Now, you HAVE to admit this is more elegant than you thought possible!

So...what will it be?  Yea, or nay?  I'll be the first to admit it isn't for everybody.  Well, for most people.  But I was pleasantly surprised overall...it's by no means the worst polish I've ever worn.  And I don't object to wearing this when it suits my clothing.

I'll leave you with this thought:  Today I was having a conversation with a very well-dressed person, who, in mid-paragraph, looked at my nails and complimented the color.  So...you just never know! :)

Will you give Trendsetter a chance?  I hope you have a lovely evening!!
:)

  2. It's... different for sure :) I'm not a fan of mustard colors as they look ghastly on my skintone, so I'm going to pass on this one. I hope that bruise on your leg heals quickly though! Even if it means you can't color-coordinate with the polish anymore ;)

    1. I like stepping out of the box sometimes. Mind you, this is like stepping 4.5 miles out of the box...but you know...:)

  5. I know what my 85 year old Daddy would say about this color... something along the lines of it reminding him of baby poop...lol.

    1. Yes...that seems to be the general consensus from everybody else I've read! :P

  6. Meant to add... your swatches are lovely-- but that color looks dreadful with my coloring.

    1. Thank you so much! It's a wonderful compliment to hear my swatches are good for such a, er, challenging color! :)

  7. Hmmm... I admit that I think this color quite ugly, but I dunno, seeing that last picture of it on you with your ring, it looks surprisingly chic and pretty. You may have changed my mind. :-)

  8. OMG, you got Trendsetter? You are sooo brave:) I can do just about any polish, but I really don't think I can do this one. Dijon Mustard does describe it well...I'll just stick to having it on my sandwich. Pretty pictures though...I'll give ya that!

    1. LOL...well thank you. That's very kind, considering I know how you feel about Trendsetter. :) It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. A little shocking, but not downright bad.

    2. I think Essie and I are in agreement on this one: not a color we can do! I physically shudder every time I see it! There's a few other mustardy, pooey, Shrek-like shades that evoke the same reaction from me. Huge props to you for giving it a try!!! :-D Oh, and I LOVE your pro AND con about it matching your 4-day old bruise! Hahahaha!!! (sorry about the injury, though!) I also noticed your little jab about the person "pausing mid-paragraph" to compliment your polish. ;-) One of those people who talk like they're writing a run-on sentence?! ;-)

  9. Oooh. Yeeaaaaah. Hmmm...
This spring I found myself really loving Zoya Piaf, a kind of jolie laide color in itself, and I considered that maybe Trendsetter wasn't as far off for me as I once thought. But, as right as Yun is about the photo with your ring, this color will not be "gracing" my nails any time soon. While you're feeling adventurous, though, you should check out another condiment-esque color, Nails Inc.'s Hampstead Gardens.

    1. I just literally LOL'd...condiment-esque!! Well I'll certainly look into it. And besides, I've discovered that sometimes the right jewelry covers a multitude of sins. :D

  10. I have Trendsetter, and while it doesn't look all that great on me on its own, it's PERFECT under Zombie Zest. PERFECT. And Zombie Zest (basically the shimmery version of Trendsetter), is weirdly GORGEOUS.

    1. I bet it is...Zombie Zest is a pretty polish even if it is the same color as Trendsetter.
