Revlon Parfumerie Ginger Melon and Lime Basil

Hey everybody!  I know by now you all have seen the displays everywhere for the charmingly retro Revlon Parfumerie polishes.  So far, I have seen 4 completely different displays of them.  And only one, a CVS end cap display, contained the two polishes I am showing today.  I purchased a couple from the Wal-Mart display, Italian Leather and Apricot Nectar, but I want to show you the ones that are a bit harder to find.

The Revlon Parfumerie polishes are a death-knell to somebody (like myself) who is drawn to unusual packaging.  Let's face it...these little vintage bottles are just adorable.  And scented on top of that?  Here's my money.  But a word of caution:  do NOT take a whiff of the polish whilst in the store.  You really don't want somebody to find you passed out in the Wal-Mart cosmetics department...I mean, you just saw somebody else like that over in the Doritos aisle, and you told yourself you'd never be THAT person.

I will go ahead and tell you that I used 3 coats for both polishes.  I was having a fearsome struggle with Mr. Vaneli.  That's my new cosmopolitan name for my ever-present visible nail line.  I think it makes him sound less annoying. :)  The formula of these 2 cremes was thin but wonderfully easy to control...I love them both.  And the tiny little brush?  It's perfect for my toddler-sized nails. :)

Now that I've gotten all that out of the way...tell me what you think of Ginger Melon!

The color of of Ginger Melon and I have a long history.  It's one of those colors that's just as coral as it is pink.  For some reason, I have always been terribly offended by indecisive pinks and corals.  I'm not that way with anything else!?  But this also happens to be the color that EVERY TIME I wear it, people tell me how good it looks on me.  Every time.  Grrr.  But I can't deny it...it's a pretty color.  I just wish it wasn't so offensive. :D

Your eyes do NOT deceive you!  The color of Ginger Melon changed on my nails from its bottle color.  Crazy!  This polish is very shiny too.

And the scent...well, it's not melon.  And it's not ginger.  It's more like a vague fruit.  Let's call it "Generic Melon." :)  It's a pleasant scent but a touch on the sweet side.

The next one of the rarer Parfumerie offerings I have is Lime Basil, a luscious medium green.

The color of Lime Basil is a bit bluer than the photos show...for some reason, the color was correct until I uploaded the pics onto here! :/  It's really pretty.  It could be either a Christmas green or a summer green.  I love it.

Lime Basil is another very shiny polish.  And, like Ginger Melon, it dried to a slightly different color on my nails.  Maybe the scent gives these a split personality? :)  Uh oh...more indecisiveness!!

Now for the scent of Lime Basil...the verdict is in:  Guilty of being delicious!!  It's fresh and citrus and does indeed smell faintly of basil.  You will definitely keep sniffing your hands with this one.  Don't do it too conspicuously though...your co-workers might think you ate fried chicken for lunch and then didn't wash your hands afterwards.

Did you pick up any of the Revlon Perfumerie polishes?  I can't say enough good about these two!  And I did want to add that if you haven't snagged any of these yet, go check out Jessica's comprehensive collection reviews of the entire Parfumerie line at Be Happy and Buy Polish.  She spells it all out and did a super job...BUT she doesn't like Lime Basil, LOL!!  Oh well! :P

Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day! <3

  1. Good on you for tracking down some rarities! I have indeed not seen either. The scent of Lime Basil sounds positively luscious and despite the shortcomings of Ginger Melon, the idea of both make me yearn for summer (and summer cuisine). Both are lovely on you and your toddler sized nails (rofl). I think it's hilarious, your offense at indecisive coral and pink polishes. Identity crises, BAH. Funny, though, because of how drawn you are to other "What ees eet?" colors! Anyhoo... great review and I must have Lime Basil.

    1. Yes...you NEED Lime Basil. I think you would love it. Don't you wonder why there are so many different displays for the same polishes?? I think it's on purpose to make us crazy girls crazier...the folks at Revlon are probably sitting back laughing at us for tracking stuff down across town. :D And you know, it's strange, but the indecisiveness of other colors does not bother me in the least. I like it in everything but pink and coral. They just need to figure out what they want to be and stick with it. :P

  2. Melissa, I am rolling over in laughter - Mr. Vaneli :-D!!!! And I know how much you like to have your colors neat and straight definable - I for my part like indecicive colors, but this is a side note only - I love both of those scented beauties on you - so far I can ogle them only from afar, they haven't made it to our racks yet, once they do, I need to have Ginger Melon for sure - for the color and the bottle ;-) - excellent review, great post <3

    1. LOLOL! :D Hey, I figured if I'm going to have to deal with this man FOREVER, then I ought to give him a name. I think he sounds *almost* elegant now! I actually love colors that are hard to define...but then I like to try to define them myself!! I like the challenge of coming up with a description for something that I can't put my finger on. Blame it all on being a control freak, LOL. :D I don't know what it is about pink/coral mash-ups. I just kinda want to slap them.

    2. That's a wonderful Melissa-esque statement, I exactly saw that - indefinable colors tackled by the Southern Belle ;-)

  3. I'll just add to the people who tell you pink/corals look fab on you, because they do! Both of these colors are really pretty. I've been hesitant to pick these up so far... I'm pretty sensitive to smell and I'm just not sure I can stand even the slightest hint of a scent.

    1. Hmmmm, I wonder how you would like them. The colors aren't terribly unique, so I think the scent (and the bottles) would be the big draw. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see just how shiny they are. And thanks...grrrrr...LOLOL. :P

  4. No, I haven't tried these yet. These are both soooo pretty! And they would look cool together! I just love your photos...but I tell you that every time :)

    1. And I love hearing it every time! <3 I think they are both lovely too. I wore lime basil for the day and I could smell it all day. ;)

  5. I MUST HAVE SOME OF THESE!!! Why oh why won't they show up in my area?! Oh I know; because the Revlon trucks can't find "my area" on a map!! :P
I hear ya RE: colors that dry differently than how they look in the bottle. Grrrr. At this very moment, I am giving Zoya Noot a second chance and yet again, I am not thrilled about how close to black it is once on the nail. The bottle makes it look a good two shades lighter. Not to mention the formula is weird... I dunno, I'm wondering if Zoya had a batch issue because my other polish I got in my recent order is not behaving nicely either!
Anyhoo, back to the subject at hand! I love how you named your VNL "Mr. Vaneli" - total LOL right there! Although of course my analytical/accuracy craving mind says it should be "Vinali," but hey, you have the creative license! :) My other LOL line for the post was: "you just saw somebody else like that over in the Doritos aisle, and you told yourself you'd never be THAT person." hehehe!! You're such a hoot, my dear! Oh and Generic Melon is a good one too. ;) You sure have me wantin' Lime Basil, but I think the color is just too similar to Essie Mojito Madness, which I LOVE, but one of my idiosyncrasies is that I can't stand to have more than one polish that is almost exactly the same. :-/ Makes me feel like it was a waste of money that could've been allocated to another unique polish. ...if you get my drift. :)

    1. You are kidding me!! You don't have any of the Parfumeries either?? Do you live in Antarctica?? LOL... I don't have Noot. It seemed too close to Evvie to bother with it. :P And I named my VNL Mr. Vaneli because to make him at least *seem* appealing, he simply HAD to be Italian. :D And thank you so much for enjoying my humor. It seemed to really flow that day, LOLOL...And I'm with you about owning something very similar to another. Seems a waste, unless the formula is better. I do hope you can find these because they are adorable...let me know if you would like me to find something for you. ;)

I really love comments. They brighten my day! But I won't make you do all the work...I always answer them! :)
