My Something Blue: Revlon Not So Blueberry (and a little bit about me)

Hey everybody!  Tuesday is my wedding anniversary.  Two years ago, I got married to my sweetheart and bestest bud Brian.  I also became a stepmother to two fantastic children, Hannah and Hunter.  I was older when I got married (this is my only marriage), so I wasn't really loving the idea of a wedding.  But Brian insisted that we have a wedding ...and I'm glad that he did, because our wedding was AWESOME in every way imaginable. :D

I know I probably won't surprise any of you with this admission, but I'm not your typical girl. :)  I did not want a standard wedding.  I wanted something with my unique stamp on it...and this meant something involving costuming and a bit of show...HAHAHA!!  We had a 1750's-themed Scottish wedding to reflect my heritage.  And my brother's day job just happens to be a bagpiper at a beachfront resort here. :)

How many teenagers do you know who would do this for their REAL mother, let alone their stepmother?? <3

I wanted everything to look very rustic, almost poor, like somebody in a Scottish village announced that somebody was getting married, and they all just got up and picked some heather on the moors and went to the wedding.  Our location was a gorgeous farmhouse in an unbelievably beautiful setting.  We said our vows in front of an old barn and used mismatched dishes for the reception.  My cake topper came from Edinburgh, and my guests were served scones from a wooden feeding trough.  The only thing missing was Gene Kelly dancing through the hills, a la Brigadoon.  It was beyond fabulous!!

Brian and Hunter's kilts were purple, but the plaid in my dress was more of a blurple, so I wanted to try to bring out the blue and wear my "something blue" on my nails.  I didn't really want to go that dark on my wedding day, so I decided on something tonal but lighter...Revlon Not So Blueberry.

Not So Blueberry is one of the scented Revlon polishes that came out way before the Parfumerie line.  It is a medium toned blurple that is really lovely and happened to be the same color as the Scottish heather garland I used. :)  It has a blue/pink/silver shimmer, and when dry, it smells fruity/fresh.

Looking at the bottle, you might think that Not So Blueberry would be frosty on the nail, but actually it's the silvery shimmer that gives it the almost metallic sheen.  It's quite beautiful and a very unusual color.  And it looks great with Scottish heather. <3

I know they wouldn't have worn blurple nail polish in 1750 Aberdeen, but hey, I did. :D

And because I'm feeling all mushy, here's my wedding processional! :)  Please enjoy the music, the outfits, my Mom struggling to keep it together, and me practically running to the altar!!  And be sure to notice the look I give Brian when I see his legs in a kilt. :P

Thanks for stopping by!  I will be on vacation with aforementioned sweetheart/best bud/hubby next week, so take care, and I'll see you in December! <3

  1. How cool is that!! So many things to talk about here. Okay, let me collect myself from that awesome video.

First off, the polish is absolutely glorious! What a beautiful blurple and it compliments that heather garland just perfectly!! I loved looking at your pictures and I'm always for things that are unique and different and it looks like you couldn't have picked a more perfect location for your nuptials! Also, I bet those lassies would have rocked Not So Blueberry back in 1750 if it was around ;-)

Bagpipes give me chills, plain and simple!! My great-grandmother Mary came over here from Scotland and my mom actually still has her china that she came over here with! She always speaks so fondly of her and the memories she had. Said she was the kindest, most gentle person with snow white hair that she wore in a bun and spoke in the most beautiful Scottish brogue.
Your mom!! Aw, watching her made me teary! This is just awesome-ness all around and you looked beautiful!!!! It was like being in a time machine and being transported back to an 18th century Scottish farm. Very well done and Happy Anniversary!! Hope you have a great time away with your sweetheart/bed bud/ hubby :-)

    2. LOLOL!!! Why DANI!! Okay, let me pick my jaw off the floor...:P

I'm so glad you liked my pics and video!! I really had the coolest wedding. <3 The couple who own the place where I got married host events sometimes for my church, so I was familiar with it and knew they had weddings there. But when we were doing the wedding planning, my sister and I were walking around the grounds and looked at the wedding arch they had...then we looked at the old, rusty-roofed barn and looked at each other and said, "Yeah!" I didn't show the barn where we had the reception, but it's decorated like a hunting lodge (you can look it up in my FB album!).

I'm with you about bagpipes...I love 'em. My brother's wedding present to me was that he learned and played "The Gael" from The Last of the Mohicans (my favorite movie). :D And I'm not positive that the bonny lasses would have worn Not So Blueberry, but you and I would have, right?? Thanks!! <3

    1. Thank you! Yes, my wedding was like me...unique, haha! I think my "something blue" was the only thing around that was modern. Well, not including the electricity and indoor plumbing. :D

    1. Thank you! My maiden name is insane and nobody has any record of even a hint of a tartan for it...so we went with the generic one. I was so glad the generic one was purple. :D

    1. Wow! You're right...this does look like bluebells! It's a color that looks kinda "meh" in the bottle, but it's so lovely on the nail. And thank you!! My wedding was pretty awesome. :D And thanks, I intend to have a wonderful vacation...take care!

  6. Wow, finally, some happy tearing up, lol :) What a fabulous wedding you must've had. I love how you bucked "tradition" and went with your own; the imagery you were going for and pulled off so beautifully; how perfectly gorgeous the day looked in the first place. What a memory ♥ And yes, the look you gave Brian in his kilt... oh myyyy!! lol. Perfect polish to commemorate the day with, too, it's beautiful on you and uncanny how well it complements the heather. Happy anniversary and have an amazing vacation, friend ♥

    1. I'm so glad you think I pulled off my targeted imagery! I couldn't have asked for anything to have been different...EXCEPT my poor sister had strep throat!! She was so sick...it was terrible. :( LOL...did you like that look I gave Brian?? And poor guy, I remember he had a humongous mosquito latched onto his face for the majority of our vows. And I am a little embarrassed to admit that I didn't realize just HOW well my polish matched the Scottish heather. Thank *goodness* I started blogging!! LOLOL...

      And thank you dear. <3

    2. Oh...and how about that hairpiece??? :)

    3. I love it! I have really grown fond of hats recently, they just add so much personality. So he had a mosquito sucking on his face the whole time? Poor guy, lol. Was it hard for you not to focus on the gigantic bug? That stinks about your sis... what terrible timing. :( And yes, thank goodness you started blogging! 'Twould have been a shame if you hadn't! ♥
