Understated Elegance: China Glaze Strike Up a Cosmo

Hey everybody!  How has your weekend been?  Mine was good...my sister is a volunteer at the county animal shelter, and yesterday she and I took a sweet little dog on a three and a half hour road trip to go live with his new owner.  Nick, a Miniature Pinscher mix, was an adorable boy, but my goodness, did that little dude ever smell bad.  He hadn't gotten a bath since he'd been at the shelter...Melanie and I were dying laughing because it was so bad.  I never thought a car ride with a thoroughly smelly pooch could be so hilarious. :D

But on a MUCH more elegant note, today I have a polish from the China Glaze Autumn Nights collection that has completely stolen my foil-loving heart.  I pretty much fell in love with the whole Autumn Nights collection, but one of my favorites was Strike Up a Cosmo, a gorgeous, golden lavender-pink.

Look at that beautiful rose gold color!  UGH, I love this.  It sparkles and glistens and looks ever so Christmas party-ish. :)

I used 2 effortless coats for the photos...true to typical foil application, you pretty much can't mess this one up.  What a huge plus this always is in my world of kindergarten paint jobs. :D

This polish reminds me so much of the holiday season...I think it's the faint resemblance to sugar plums or something Victorian.  Uh, does anybody know what I'm talking about, or do I just need some cocoa and a good night's sleep? :P

See?  Look!  Strike Up a Cosmo is all ready for the punch and presents!  Wow...I hadn't realized I was THIS ready for Christmas season...

And I have a question for you all:  I have read that so many people just detested the Autumn Nights collection, but I am crazy about it.  Am I in the minority?  Becoming unfashionable?  Reading the wrong blogs?  Wait...I guess that was technically three questions, huh...

Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely evening!

  1. So sweet of you two to deliver that smelly boy to his forever home <3 And good for you for having such a great sense if humor about it.
This polish is so gorgeous! I adore rose golds, too, and it definitely has a Victorian air about it. It's very you <3 I honestly know next to nothing about this collection beyond what you, Yun, and Lacquer Or Leave Her have shown (and I can't even remember if Either of them even did this collection). ChG just doesn't show up on my radar for some reason, and I have no explanation for it. That said, this is so pretty that I can't imagine why anyone would take issue with it. I think it's actually kind if cool when a particular collection, or polish, really catches my fancy but isn't well received by the masses. It kind of makes it more "mine", if that makes any sense. I felt that way about OPI NYC Ballet, even though that was plenty well received, there are lots of folks just not into soft shades and I couldn't shut up about them for the rest if the year, lol. Anyhoo, all this to say that maybe this is your polish soul mate, lol :)

    1. It was a lot of fun taking little Nick on his "freedom ride" as they call it. :D Yes, Yun reviewed these, which is the reason I wound up buying 7 of them. BLAST THAT YUN!! :P But I've read where people are calling the metallics frosty and asking if anybody likes that stuff anymore...I'm so confused, LOL. I understand what you mean when you can sorta call a collection "yours"...I'll go ahead and claim this one. Think I could claim royalties as well? :P

    2. Ha, I cause so much trouble. :P I dunno, I didn't see this collection as being too frosty, but maybe I just don't know what that means? It's a lot of metallics/foils, so maybe people just didn't like that and wanted cremes instead for their fall collection. Sometimes I find that I'm in the minority too when it comes to certain polishes (pearly finishes ftw!). But if others don't like something, that just means more for me haha! :D

    3. Yep, if ever in doubt, blame it on Yun! Just kidding. <3 I personally don't refer to metallics or foils as frosts. Am I incorrect here?

  2. Hi Melissa, oh how hilarious this ride with that smelly pooch!! But then it is easy for me as I had not to share the same confinded space :-D!!! I love this rosy dusted foil on you, it indeed has something very festive and I could imagine it works as well for Christmas as for some posh dinner at a tropical place. Between you, me and the lamppost I never understood the moods and currents that made beautiful collections nearly go unremarked and others (in my humble eye boring and repetitive) have the nailpolish universe swooning and grasping for air - I am with Liesl - those less prominent collections more often than not call out to me xxx

    1. LOL...my sister kept saying, "Stop laughing!! He's so sweet and he can't help how he smells!!" Then she would bust out laughing again. :P Thank you!! I'm so glad you see the Christmas in this! I thought I was losing it...I don't understand particular love for a lot of stuff. I guess that's just me being old and grumpy. :D

  3. That is a gorgeous polish! I really liked some of the Autumn Nights polishes. Not all of them, but it's a rare collection that I just love everything.

And that's so funny about the smelly dog - and why I always give my dog a bath the day before I take her on a road trip!

    1. I think there may have been 1 or 2 I didn't love, but I ended up buying 7 of them...that's unheard of for me. :) Yeah, my sister said she should have just gone in to the shelter early and bathed him herself, LOL.

  4. This is a gorgeous polish! I agree, it does remind me of the holidays :) Maybe it's the kind of berry color that reminds me of pie? Or maybe that's just me being hungry.
I heard a lot of not-so-great press about the Autumn Nights collection too, but I thought it was a pretty nice collection!

    1. Pie...mmmm...:) I just do NOT get the lack of love for this collection. I mean, every time Yun posted about one, I'd swoon and put it on my list! :)

  5. Haha that poor smelly dog! So sweet of you guys to drive him to his new home. Hope the little guy gets a nice bath soon. <3
I love this color on you, I have to say! It's so warm and festive. :) As for the collection, I don't see anything wrong with it. As with all collections, there were a few colors I didn't care for, but there were also quite a few standouts, including this and Rendezvous with you. :D

    1. He did get a bath, and he loves his new home and doggy sister too. <3 I hear you...Rendezvous With You got me right off the bat (courtesy of guess who)...I bought that one very first and then 6 more later. :D

  6. I wonder why people would detest the collection! This shade looks really pretty.

    1. I don't know...Things like that always make me doubt myself, LOL...and why should I ever doubt this fantastic-ness???

  7. Pretty color... I snagged it, too.

Think I would have made a pit stop and washed that pup before transport... we always bathe our pups before a road trip... makes for a much more pleasant olfactory experience!

    1. LOL...we picked up some wipes, but it didn't help, poor thing! But little Nick is living the life of luxury now and doesn't remember being smelly. <3

  8. And it isn't a frost, like you said, it's a foil... if someone calls it a frost, they don't know their stuff.

    1. I think people were calling the metallics in the collection frosts, which I don't see either. A metallic has a reflective quality about it, but I wouldn't call it frosty??

I really love comments. They brighten my day! But I won't make you do all the work...I always answer them! :)
