Another thing: you may have noticed that I do not like using typical nail polish language. I will not use the words "dupe" or "stash", and don't even get me started on "lemming". Another term I really dislike is "untried". I mean...who came up with all this stuff anyway? Who invented the nail polish language?? Anyway, as I always call my terms by a different name, I am officially calling my unworn polishes my never-worns. I think it lends a sort of elegance to my unhealthy habit. :D
Today's post features two polishes by Sinful Colors that were both *meant* to be a Blogger Made Me Do It post blaming the ever-charming Liesl Loves Pretty Things. So I guess you're gettin' a two-fer! First off, let's hear it for Graine de Poivre.
Graine de Poivre (translation: peppercorn) is a mushroom taupe creme, introduced fall of 2013. I fell so in love with this when Liesl featured it that I went looking for it right away. I have some close-but-no-cigar colors like it. Graine de Poivre turns really grey on me, but I still like it. The formula is very good on this one.
I did a little comparison shot of some taupe-ish and greige colors, just so you can see about where Graine de Poivre falls in the spectrum. Oh, and I have no idea why Berlin There, Done That looks matte...:/
The other Sinful Colors offering that I just HAD to have after Liesl's feature is Hot Chili, a sort of "texture lite" introduced around May of 2014.
See how pretty this is? Would you believe me if I told you it's even prettier in person?? Hot Chili is a barely pink-tinged red metallic with textured bits of something and small holographic glitter. Yeah, this is nice. I was surprised that the formula was super runny. My results after one coat were disastrous, but two coats seemed to help quite a lot.
Well now. I feel better already. Two down from my long list of never-worns and many, many more to go. At $1.99 each, these two SC polishes don't induce *that* much of a guilt trip. I blame Liesl anyway. :P
Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day! <3
Era of financial responsibility!? What are you, some kind of grown up? Just pickin', chicken! I love your "neverworn" coinage -- it has a nostaglic forlorn quality suitable for those poor polishes whose bright visions of adorning your nails when you bought them have grown dimmer and dimmer as they've languished in your stash, uh I mean, collection. "I think it lends a sort of elegance to my unhealthy habit." *lol* As far as unhealthy habits go, nail polish is definitely on the upside of that swing.
ReplyDeleteI also LOVE Graine de Poivre, what a beautiful sleek taupe -- so chic! And utterly fantastic on you, too. I've been meaning to seek this one out, along with Essie Smokin Hot.
I'm really trying to be a grown up! :P Yeah...I was thinking my term was a super classy way to describe such shameful behavior. It's funny about Graine de Poivre...looking at the bottle, I thought it'd look more like L'Oreal Eiffel For You, but it looks so grey on me, and quite a bit darker than EFY.
DeleteGraine de Poivre is gorgeous! I have so much polishes that I haven't tried on too, lol.
ReplyDeleteOops!! Maybe you oughta break out a couple?? :)
DeleteThe longest an untried/neverworn might last around me is a week. I always have to try a new color right away.
ReplyDeleteAmazed...and impressed. Truly.
DeleteThey're both loverly on you, and thank you for ze mention! I take full responsibility for this portion of your erhm, never-worns (caught myself, deleted unsavory word, done :D). I'm in such a single-minded place right now, polish wise, that I have no place to judge anyone for anything, lol. I've always preferred "stash" to "collection" as far as polish goes, in my case, because they mean different things. "'To each, their own,' the old woman said as she kissed her cow."
ReplyDeleteI know most people don't even think about nail polish terminology. For me, it all started with "lemming"...that whole premise offended me to no end. Then I started thinking about all the other terms. Then they started offending me too. Then I decided that the inner rebel in me wasn't going to use those terms. I would say I need a hobby, but...uh...?
DeleteI really like the second one. It looks amazing :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful polish, and not *too* textured either. ;)
