Maybelline Color Show Brocades: Ruby Refined

Hey everybody!  When is the last time you saw a mainstream polish collection...make that a DRUGSTORE polish collection...and wanted the whole thing?  It's happened to me.  The Maybelline Color Show Brocades collection is the prettiest mainstream polish I've seen all year.  I picked up two of them over the weekend, but I wish I'd gotten them all, especially AFTER I looked at my receipt and noticed that Rite Aid did NOT advertise that they were buy one get one half off. :/

I asked my ever-obliging hubby Brian to pick out his favorite, and he chose Ruby Refined, an elegant crimson with a dash of pink.

Ruby Refined is gloriously metallic, almost reflective, and much more so than the photos show.  This polish looks just like Christmas wrapping paper...you know, the expensive rolls that aren't sold in the huge cardboard boxes for $1.99 apiece.

The glitter in Ruby Refined is a mix of red and pink in the same hues as the polish base.  The overall look is truly like brocade fabric, satiny and luxe.

I have read some reports that the Brocades collection chips immediately after application.  I put this on early this morning over Duri Rejuvacote...this is 2 coats with 2 coats of top coat.  As you can see, I had some tip wear (typical for me) but no chips.  Since I change my polish almost daily, I think I can live with the risk of a chip.  I mean...look at this stuff!!

Ruby Refined is indeed a luxurious, elegant, and refined looking polish.  I hope it continues to play nicely with me and not be an awful chipper...that would seriously blow the whole image, huh?  May as well pick up that roll of $1.99 camouflage wrapping paper while I'm at it...

I will show you the other Brocades polish I purchased if I can ever bring myself to take this one off. :D

Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day! <3

    1. Thank you! You know something...these Brocades are the closest thing I have seen to Tawdry Terrier finishes. I never could quite put into words the way yours look, but brocade is a really good description. ;)

  2. Oh bly me - beautiful!!! Ruby Refined is so festive and elegant!!! It seems you can make polishes last on your nails that chip on us others - I just read Scrangies post showing off her major chip ;-)! Cardboxes full of wrapping paper? We don't have those here, just huge, heavy rolls. And if we want to go fancy and expensive you buy single sheets of wraping paper. So curious what other shade you picked!!!

    1. Ahhh...doesn't it just look like Christmas?? I love it. I'm usually not the poster child for long-wearing polish, so go figure! :) Yes, we have stores that sell the cheap wrapping paper in humongous rolls for not a lot of money. They are always prone to tear when you use them!! :P

  3. Beautiful. I wonder if guys would always pick a red nail polish if given the choice. I think Chris would. I'll have to check the collection out....I haven't seen it in stores.

    1. Brian sure would. It was funny...I was picking out 3 different brands, and I'd say, "which one do you like?", and all three times he picked the red one. :/ I hope you can find these...they aren't expensive and they are quite unusual...all of them.

  4. I've been seeing the Brocades pop up everywhere recently, and I definitely need to get my butt over to RiteAid and pick some up. Ruby Refined is just gorgeous on you! I've heard about the chipping too, and it's a huge bummer for me. I change my polish weekly, so to have it chip after a day would made me sad. But not sad enough to not get these lol. :D

    1. They are really gorgeous...every one is just a different look that you don't see everywhere. I was bowled over, LOL...I want them ALLLLL. I still didn't have a chip at the end of the following day.

  5. That's awesome that these are actually wearing well on you. When I first heard they were prone to chipping I was reminded of Belugaria and how maybe they're better used as evening wear. But it's awesome that these actually have staying power on you! You're lucky :) Oh, and Carlos would pick a green :)

    1. Really? Well, the green in this collection was so pretty that Brian almost chose it as his 2nd favorite. :) Did Belugaria chip on you? Sheesh, I thought you'd have to take a jackhammer to that one to remove it! :D
