The Cheapskate Files: Essie All Tied Up

Hey everybody!  It's a pretty exciting day for me...we are actually getting to experience a little part of the massive cold front that's currently affecting the country.  I'm not sweating!! :)

When I was on vacation last month, I managed to snag several bottles of my favorite type of polish:  cheap. :D  Oh...I shouldn't say "cheap"...it sounds so...cheap.  How about calling it "polishes I found at an excellent price"?  Yes...much better.  I found a bottle of Essie All Tied Up, from their Summer 2012 collection, for something like $3 at TJ Maxx.  I can honestly say that I don't own anything even close to this color!

Essie's website describes All Tied Up like this:  "this rustic bronze with subtle golden shimmer glistens with a restrained, yet warm and sensuous charm that will leave him totally tongue-tied."  Well now that's different.  Not only would I not call this color "bronze", but for some reason I'm never thinking of how I can render some guy speechless with my manicure.  For somebody who loves vampy shades, I'm more like Goldilocks. :D

I would personally describe All Tied Up as a medium rosy terracotta.  How's that for a description?  Hey, it's better than bronze! :)  It does have a lovely golden shimmer.  I love shimmer! <3

I used 2 coats of All Tied Up for the photos...then my camera got all upset upon seeing me wearing a color that hailed from the Orange-esque Dynasty and paid me back by portraying me as Wilbur the Pig.  You'll have to trust me when I say that I still look my regular color in person. :)

Let's talk formula...oh Essie, WHY can't you make everything like this one?  It was just perfect...creamy and easy to apply.  And it really is a lovely color.  It's just that my camera and I aren't used to seeing me like this.  It's a sort of "not-very-me" neutral.

Bonus Points if you can spot what's wrong with this pic!!! :)

So...how about that?  I'm wearing ALL kinds of new things!:)  Do you have a color like this one?  What color does it turn your skin?  And most importantly, SHOULD nail polish be considered a lethal weapon against a man?? :)

Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day! <3

  1. TJ Maxx is where I have bought the bulk of my Essies, although the ones around me just raised the price from $2.99 to $4.99. It's still a good discount vs. retail but I'm still hurt about it, lol! This shade is lovely, it's like a darker Lion Around! I have no idea where they got the "bronze" from, I think all these polish companies need to hire bloggers as naming consultants because 2 out of 3 times their names are waaaay off! :) I think that nail polish is a weapon of female empowerment, girls often compliment nails but I have never heard a man talk about how blown away he was by some chick's nails... maybe it's time for me to get All Tied Up and change that?!?! hahaha.

    1. I noticed they had gotten a bit higher too! That is pretty hurtful, LOL! :) And I do know one man who seems to get all watery around nail polish. And it's all colors, strangely enough...even glitter! But I don't paint my nails to get a reaction from him...maybe we've been too naive?? :P

  3. "Medium rosy terra cotta" is perfect for this one! Wasn't there talk about the four of us going into business naming polishes at some point? lool. And I can just see it--some handsome stranger takes your hand and raises it to his lips saying, "Your nail polish...it's...disarming." L'mow. I don't see the Wilbur-esqueness of which you speak, but if I did you would indeed be Some Pig :D

    1. Ahhh, thank you...and YES we should totally be naming polishes. LOLOLOL...how did you know it was my secret fantasy to catch a dude off guard with my nails?? :)

      HUMBLE!!!

  4. I think a medium rosy terra cotta nails it perfectly!

And as for men.... well, my hubby only notices the sparkliest and most holographic ones--- he says "wow, that sparkles", that's about the extent of his critiques...lol

And the only other time I can remember was when a stranger said he liked the bright toenail polish I had on.... I figured him for a guy with a thing for feet or something......

    1. Yikes! Methinks you're right on that one...:P My husband loves red...he does NOT like blue or green. But he doesn't go all melty or anything whilst I wear red. Hmmmm...maybe some All Tied Up will do the trick??

  5. The only guy I've ever had really notice my nails was a friend in high school - he'd notice whenever I had a new nail polish. I have no idea how he managed to have them memorized since I had tons of polish back then too. Other than him, the only comments I've gotten are "that's sparkly" or "that's bright" or some brilliant comment where he just says the name of the color - like he'll look at my nails and go "purple." LOL!

    1. Wow Kim...was he a stalker?? LOLOL! The guy I referred to notices everything too...never misses a new color. Even loved China Glaze Trendsetter. I'm not kidding.

  6. Wilburg the Pig - honestly, you crack me up!!! But since I recovered some on to All Tied Up! Terracotta hits the nail on the head! Wonder what sort of light Essie got at their offices to see any bronze? And quite frankly, I never met a guy being interested much less mesmerized by whatever nailpolish I wore. With the exception of a holo maybe but more for how they MAKE them then how they LOOK. All Tied Up looks very classy on you :-) xxx

    1. Zuckerman's Famous PIG!! :D Classy is great, but I'm starting to think: maybe I DO want mesmerizing?? I'm just not a manipulative girl, so what would the point of it all be?? AHHH!! So many things to consider with all this vampiness!!! :P

  7. I need to check out TJ Maxx more often. Maybe I'll stop over there today. The weather is like 5 above zero now so it's feeling hot and steamy! This is a really pretty color and I feel like I have something like it from Essie. Oh, Your Hut Or Mine seems really similar.

    1. LOLOL...hot and steamy...you poor thing. :( I have gotten a couple of really good Essies from TJ Maxx lately. The formula on this was so nice, I wasn't sure I was reading the bottle correctly. :P

  8. That's such a good price -- here I come, TJ Maxx :D I love the slight gold shimmer on this one. I'm guessing it looks great on you in person!
Hm, I guess some guys I know notice my nails but I'm in high school so they haven't gotten their full manly mindset thing settled quite yet...
